Robert L. Allender, 86, of Marietta, died Tuesday, September 1, 2015, at his home. He was born December 15, 1928 in Pennsboro, WV to Bert and Bessie Jane Cornell Allender. Robert was a hard worker and enjoyed his work at Dupont for 36 years, working in sheet metal maintenance. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Riedel (Phillip) of Baltimore, MD and Diane Lane of Marietta; grandchildren, Chelsea Riedel of New York City and Patricia Jennai (Ishmail) of Ft. Hood, TX and great grandson, Caleb Jennai, as well as a special friend, Shirley Cox, of Marietta. He loved animals, especially J.J., his cat, that he had had for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hayes Allender, on March 11, 2014, they were married on July 15, 1950. There will be graveside services held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Barlow Central Cemetery, with Pastor Rick Headley officiating. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
