Robert Joseph Schaad

Robert Joseph "Bob" Schaad, 83, of Fleming, Formerly of Churchtown, died Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Heartland of Marietta. He was born on November 5, 1931 in Churchtown, Ohio, to Andrew and Mary Lang Schaad. He married the love of his life, Garnet I. Sarver, on March 26, 1951. Bob retired from Union Carbide in 1969, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He also owned and operated Schaad's Sunoco at Moore's Junction, and owned and operated his family farm. Bob loved playing euchre and was a member of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption and the Marietta Moose. He is survived by his wife, Garnet, one son, Mike Schaad (Patsy) of Marietta, three daughters, Debbie Gardner (Reggie) of Marietta, Ruth Wright (Larry) of Fleming and Cindy Hesson (Steve) of Marietta, six grandchildren, Dustin and Ryan Schaad, Sonja Butler, Tiffany Swain, and Josh and Derek Hesson, 17 great grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Strahler of Lowell and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Howard and Regis Schaad and one sister, Eunice Taylor. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, with The Rev. Mnsgr. John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. There will be a Vigil service held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to The National Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741. The family would like to thank the staff of Heartland and Hospice for the excellent care they gave Bob and support they gave his family.
