C. Roger Bradley
C. Roger Bradley, 70, of Marietta, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, following a brief illness. He was born June 30, 1942 in Parkersburg, WV to Charles L. and Bessie Fulton Bradley. Roger graduated from Williamstown High School, where he was a standout athlete in baseball and football. After losing his hearing to measles in third grade, Roger went on to be known as "The Lonesome End" for Williamstown High's conference winning football team, never entering the huddle on offense, but relying on hand signals to communicate with teammates. Later in life, he worked at Dravo, Connex, and retired from Pioneer Pipe, working as a draftsman and estimator. Roger was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He had been a youth baseball coach, an active golfer and member of Oxbow Golf Course. He enjoyed time spent with family, especially following the many sports and activities of his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Schilling Bradley, whom he married on November 12, 1966; daughter, Beth Maxon (D.J.) of Reedsville, two sons, Charles R. Bradley, II of Mansfield and Mark F. Bradley (Tammi) of Marietta, five grandchildren, Emilee and Gabrielle Bradley, Mollie and Megan Maxon and Dillon Bradley, a brother, David Bradley (Darla) and a sister, Patricia Deem, of Homosassa, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. A kind and compassionate man, Roger donated his corneas to The Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank, as he was sensitive to people with sensory disabilities, and wanted to help others see. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Christopher Foxhaven as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. His burial will be at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Churchtown, OH. Donations may be made to the St. Mary School Foundation, 506 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750.
