Roger L. Mitchell, 58, of 2300 Burnett Road, Cutler, Ohio, died at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at his residence, following a short battle with cancer. He was born in Parkersburg, WV on August 3, 1950. Roger is a retired United States Air Force Veteran, entering the Air Force in November of 1968 and retiring as a Master Sergeant in December of 1988. He served for 21 years as the Lead Man of air craft maintenance for the Air National Guard, taking care of various air crafts. He enjoyed flying, hunting, golfing, cars, and spending time with his family and grandchildren most of all. He is survived by his step father, Paul H. McCoy of Athens; wife, Mary Ellen Riley Mitchell, whom he married on April 6, 1972; son, Chris Mitchell (Misty Caldwell) of Marietta; three grandsons, Braden, Dylan and Eythan Mitchell; Kanitta and Sierah Caldwell; brother, David McCoy of Albany, Ohio; three brothers-in-law, James, Edward, and Michael (Toni) Riley, all of Athens; two sisters-in-law, Faye Schilling (Kevin) of Orlando, FL and Letha Riley (Wally Taylor) of Athens; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Louis Dailey McCoy; sister, Judi Williams; mother and father-in-law, James and Phyllis Riley; and brother-in-law, Ronald Riley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Roger's good friend, The Rev. Jeff Adkins officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Centenary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to Home Nursing Service and Hospice, P.O.
