Roma Eileen Bergen

August 23, 1917 — January 5, 2013

Roma Hopp Bergen (Worthington, OH), formerly of 904 Glendale Road in Marietta, died on Saturday, January 5, 2013. She was born in Marietta on August 23, 1917, to Edgar and Winifred Meister Hopp. After spending much of her childhood in Shaker Heights, OH, she returned to Marietta with her mother and brother (Bruce) upon the death of her father. She graduated from Marietta High School and attended Marietta College.

She married Richard Lewis Bergen on October 27, 1937. She and Dick returned to Marietta from Wilmette, Illinois, with their twin sons, Jon and Jeff, in 1953, when they founded Forma Scientific.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church; the Marietta Welfare League; American Cancer Society, and Parkersburg Country Club. An accomplished pianist, she and her husband enjoyed sharing their love of singing before both large and small gatherings throughout their lives. In addition to singing in her church choir, she also played the organ.

She is survived by her son Jeff (Judy) Bergen of Worthington. She is also survived by seven granddaughters: Elizabeth (Robert) Mueller of Upper Arlington, Kathleen (David) Grapey of Greensboro NC, and Amy (Matt) Greeson of Worthington; and Susan (Norm) Kerr of Chicago, Karen (Ron) Mayo of Littleton CO, Christine (Rob) Linnabary of Gahanna, Jennifer (Brian) Kimble of Pickerington, and their mother Carol S. Bergen. Also surviving are sixteen great-grandchildren: Paul, Jeffrey and Gretchen Mueller; Nicholas and Sarah Grapey; Benjamin and Charlotte Greeson; Hollis and Nathan Kerr; Zachary and Emily Mayo; Benjamin, Kirsten and Anna Linnabary; and Patrick and Morgan Kimble. She is also survived by her nephew Doug (Jean) Bergen, and by nephews Steve, Robert and David Hopp, and niece Linda Hopp.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her son Jon, her brother Bruce, and her parents.

A memorial service will be held at St Luke's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday January 12, 2013, with Pastor Steven M. Mahaffey officiating. Interment will take place prior to the memorial service on Saturday. Family will greet friends following the service at a reception in the church social hall. The Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of other remembrances, memorials may be made in Roma's name to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 401 Scammel Street, Marietta, OH 45750.
