Roy Everett Life, 85, of Williamstown, WV, died at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009 at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was born on July 4, 1923 in Wood County, to Will and Vernie Boyce Life. Roy was a United States Army veteran of WWII. Having served in various battles and campaigns, he was awarded several decorations and citations, including service medals, five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart, having been wounded in action on March 21, 1945, in Germany. He retired as a Millwright Inspector from Union Carbide, following 34 years of service. Roy was a member of the VFW and F.O. Eagles, both in Parkersburg. He is survived by his wife, Alwilda Marshall Life, whom he married on April 12, 1946; a daughter, Julia King (Charles) of Williamstown; two sons, Chris Life of Tucson, Arizona, and Tony Life of Williamstown; three grandchildren, Sara and Emily Life of Mesa, Arizona, and Shane King (Tricia) of Parkersburg; a sister Nina Boley of South Parkersburg; and a brother, Lloyd Life of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with The Rev. Scott Morehead officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Williamstown, with full military honors being observed.
