Ruth Ann DeWitt, 83, of Marietta, died Friday, October 24, 2014, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born April 30, 1931 in Parkersburg, WV to John E. and Mary Ruth Haught White, Sr. She was a graduate of Marietta High School and had worked at Kissel Company and later retired from the Marietta A.M. Ruth was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption and she enjoyed crossword puzzles, crocheting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her six children, Dianna Burkhard (Thomas) of Springfield, OH, Theodore DeWitt, Jr. (Cheryl) of Marietta, Thomas DeWitt of Marietta, Debra Dillon (David) of Williamstown, WV, Terry DeWitt (Catherine) of Westminster, MD and Donna Wells (Kevin) of Marietta, with whom she resided; sixteen grandchildren, Thomas Burkhard, II, Nicole Zimmer, Christy Gerken, Eric DeWitt, April Mitchell, Joshua DeWitt, Michael Dillon, Adam Dillon, Jessica Kelley, Trisha Moore, Ashleigh Schulthiez, Mario Reda, Heather Dion, Shelby Boice, Michael Reda and Kirstin McCarthy; 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, John White, Jr. (Julia) of Whipple and David White (Carol) of Lower Salem, a sister, Sharon Flesher (Richard) of Marietta and a sister in law, Betty White, of Marietta. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Lee DeWitt, Sr. on September 13, 1995, they had been married on September 16, 1951, also by a brother, Robert White, and a great granddaughter, Tidja Sealey. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at The Basilica with the Rev. Thomas Nelson as celebrant. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Donations to American Heart Association or the Disabled American Veterans.
