Ruth Virginia Short

December 24, 1913 — June 28, 2009

Ruth Virginia Short, 95, of Timberline Drive, Marietta, Ohio, died on Sunday June 28, 2009 at her residence. She was born on December 24, 1913 in Steubenville, Ohio to Frank C. and Virginia Geisinger Lloyd. Ruth received her Bachelors Degree in English in 1934 from Mount Union College. She worked for Standard Oil of Ohio for many years, in the Personnel Department. After retirement, she had worked for Stetson University, in the Physics Department, and Volusia County, both in Florida. Ruth married William D. Short on April 16, 1966 and he died on February 7, 1989. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, and AAUW. Ruth enjoyed playing bridge and participating in community theatre, having played many roles with Shoe String Theatre and Theatre Center of DeLand, FL. She is survived by her sister, Marian Kurner (Charles) of Marietta; two stepchildren, Susan Peairs of St. Petersburg, PA and Dean Short of Philadelphia, PA; and numerous step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Franklin Lloyd, and an infant brother. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Columbarium in St. Luke's Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, in Marietta, with Father David Ruppe officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Service and Hospice, P.O. Box 97, Marietta, Ohio 45750. Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
