Sally Juanita Schafer, 81, of Marietta, OH passed away peacefully at Marietta Care and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, November 14, 2012. Sally was born on August 30, 1931 in Marietta, OH to Homer and Kathryn Stephan Erb. Sally was married to her high school sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Schafer on August 25, 1951 in Marietta, OH. Being a military wife, Sally and Bob resided in many different places around the country before returning to their hometown of Marietta: Corpus Christi, TX and Providence, RI. Sally worked as a secretary for many years at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Fairview Heights Elementary School and Marietta College as well as taking care of her family. In her free time, Sally was active in CCL, PTA, and bridge clubs. She loved to cross-stitch, knit, crochet, work cross word puzzles, bake, and especially enjoyed game shows. Sally and Bob were active members of Norwood United Methodist Church in Marietta before Bob took a position as pastor of St. John's Evangelical Church in Lowell, OH. Sally is survived by her three children: Kathy (Doak) Markley of Williamstown, WV; David Schafer of Marietta, OH; and Cindy Huck of Waterford, OH. Her grandchildren include Amanda (Ryan) Langton of Naperville, IL; Jessica Markley of Charleston, SC; Matthew (Jessica) Huck of Marietta, OH; Emily Markley of Alexandria, VA; Danielle Huck of Boaz, WV; Sara Huck of Marietta, OH; and Ashleigh Huck of Marietta, OH. Sally also has three beloved great grandchildren: Olivia Huck, Hayden Langton, and Harper Langton. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn Erb and Homer Erb; her guardian aunts, Stella Chamberlain and Mae Stephan, her brothers Claude Erb and Paul Erb, her beloved husband Robert Schafer, and grandson Tyler Hilton Schafer. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Hart officiating. Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to her service on Saturday. Private burial will be on Monday, November 19, 2012, at East Lawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 1218 Market St., Parkersburg, WV 26101.
