Sandra "Sandy" Sayre Parmiter, 68, of Marietta, died Sunday, April 25, 2010, at her home. She was born March 4, 1942 in Zanesville, OH to Robert and Dorothy Smith Sayre. She was a 1960 graduate of M&M High School, McConnelsville. She then moved to Columbus and worked as a secretary for two years for the Ohio State Personnel Dept., then for the Ohio Health Dept. She moved back to Marietta and continued her education at the Marietta Area Technical School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1964, as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was instrumental in starting the alumni association for the technical school. The association was able to provide scholarships to the nursing program for students. She had worked at Marietta Memorial Hospital and also at Harmar Place as an LPN and Staff Development Coordinator, retiring in 1994. She also worked for ten years doing insurance proposals for various insurance companies. Sandy enjoyed gardening, playing cards, cake decorating, the Cincinnati Bengals and most of all, spending time with her precious grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Parmiter, they were married on August 4, 1962; her two sons, Shaun Parmiter (Kelly) and Michael Parmiter (special friend, Kym McAuley), all of Marietta; five grandchildren, Zayne, Taylor, Eli, Jordan and Kelsey Parmiter; step grandchildren, Brittini, Brianna and Brandi Messick and Megan and Alaina McAuley; her sister, Betty Merry of Bidwell; brother, Robert Sayre of Caldwell; special "sons", Tony and Troy Dennis and Brian Elliott; special aunt, Hazel King of Henryville, IN and many special cousins and friends. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ronnie Smith, and her beloved yellow labrador retriever, Meggie. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Stockton officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Donations may be made to Home Nursing and Hospice, or to the Pet Grief Recovery Group, c/o Christ United Methodist Church.
