Selma Lucille Worthington, 79, of Lowell, died Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 1, 1935, in Lowell, to Wesley and Iva Hinzman Way. Selma graduated from Lowell High School, class of 1953. She was a homemaker and loved helping with the family farm. Selma also was a Lowell area local news correspondent for the Marietta Times. She was a member of the Lowell United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and loved playing the organ at the church for members and friends. Selma loved writing stories and poems and traveling in her motorhome with her husband, Wayne Worthington, whom she married on November 8, 1953. She is survived by her husband, three children, Walt Worthington (Debbie) of Marietta, Kevin Worthington (Beth) of Lowell, Nathan Worthington (Cindy) of Lowell, nine grandchildren, Staci Ritchie (Paul), Kristi Starkey (Matt), Darrin Worthington (Megan), Jenny Worthington, Ross Worthington, Rachel Burnham (Scott), Daniel Worthington (fianc, Lacey Huck), Ty Worthington and Jason VanClief, five great grandchildren, Cody, Madison, Colin, Grace and Claire, one sister, Betty Van Hine of Waterford, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Adam Worthington. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at the Lowell United Methodist Church, with Pastor Pam Lashley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell. Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Lowell United Methodist Church or the L-A Fire & Rescue. The family would like to thank her care givers, Lola Sampson, Teresa Bennett and Molly Varhola.
