Shelba Joyce Kern

Shelba Joyce Kern, a beloved resident of Marietta, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 84. Born on February 5, 1940, in St. Mary's, West Virginia to  Forrest Pearl North and Lorena Eliner North. Shelba lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family.

Shelba attended Willard Elementary School and Marietta High School. She spent her career as an Operator at B.F. Goodrich, where she was known for her hard work and commitment. Outside of work, Shelba was a member of the VFW, the Moose in Marietta, and the Eagles in Beverly. She cherished her travels to Las Vegas with her husband and friends, and she was a devoted viewer of CNN and On Patrol. A die-hard Democrat, Shelba enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, including indulging in peanut clusters and pepperoni rolls.

Shelba is survived by her loving children: Sidney (Mike) Waddell, Frank (Kathy) Schneider, Tamara (James) Antill, Brett (Kelly) Schneider, Kevin (Becky Littleton) Schneider, Deana (Chris) Hooper, and Frosty (Missy) Schneider, as well as her seven step-children. She is also survived by her sister, Sonja VanWey, and her cherished grandchildren: William (Jackie) West, Alicia (Brad) Herda, Angela Dotson (Jason), Amy Harris, Aaron Schneider, Vivian (Shaun) Zoller, Jerry (Leah) Bellville, James Antill Jr., Misty Antill, Joshua (Amanda) Schneider, Joseph Schneider, Zane Schneider, Shawn (Rebecca) Beaver, Jacob (Kayla) Beaver, Jerrod (Jennifer) Schneider, and Drew (Madison) Schneider. Her legacy continues through her 33 great-grandchildren, with one more expected in April, and her two great-great-granddaughters. Shelba's best friend, Marty, also mourns her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond J. Kern, her sister, Sara Haught, her stepson, Doug Kern, her brother-in-law, Ron VanWey, two grandchildren, Michael and Michelle West, two great-granddaughters, Ashton and Lylian Dotson, and her beloved dog, Biskut.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shelba's life at a Funeral Liturgy with Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marietta, Ohio, on Monday, December 16, 2024, at 11:00 am with the Rev. Father David Gaydosik officiating. Visitation will be held at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Sunday, December 15, 2024, from 2 pm to 4 pm and from 6 pm to 8 pm, with a Vigil Service at 4 pm. A graveside service will follow the Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Shelba Joyce Kern will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and her vibrant spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
