Shirley Jean Long

Shirley Jean Long, 70, of Bosner Ridge Road, Lowell, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at Heartland of Marietta. She was born April 8, 1940 in Philo, Ohio to James Robert and Nellie Maude Lowe Jackson, Sr.. She had worked several years at NCR in Cambridge and finished her career as a Nursing Assistant in the Marietta area. Shirley was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Marietta and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #750, Lowell. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and reading and loved movies, pets of all sorts, yard sales and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Donald J. Long, they were married on December 21, 1975, eight children, James Hendershot (Young Hee) of Puyallup, WA, Rebecca Long (Pat) of Lowell, Timothy Hendershot (Paula) of Walker, WV, Thomas Hendershot (Angela) of Belpre, Eugene Long (Jeannie) of Stockport, Pat Long (Rebecca) of Lowell, Daniel Long (Kathy) of Fleming and Diana Wood (Butch) of Stockport, twenty grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, four sisters, Patricia Long, Elaine Thomas (John) of Marietta, Judy Rader (Ron) of Little Hocking and Linda Peters of Williamstown, WV, a brother, James R. Jackson, Jr. (Sandy) of Marietta and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandchild and a great grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Marietta. Her son, the Rev. Thomas Hendershot will officiate. Friends may call at the Lowell Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery in Lowell.
