Shirley Roddy

Shirley Marie Catherine Roddy of Marietta, Ohio died on Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 21, 1937 in Marietta to Benedict A. and Mary Eileen Hayes Roddy.

She was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta. She was a graduate of Barlow Local Schools at Vincent, Ohio and Washington Technical College. She retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation in 2005.

Shirley is survived by her beloved children. Her daughters are Sherry Destro (Joseph) of Markleysburg, PA, Susan Francis (Kevin), Jennifer Maston (Jeff), and Constance “Connie” McGregor all of Marietta, OH. Two sons, Matthew McGregor (Kristina) of Belle Vernon, PA and Andrew McGregor (Teresea) of McLoud, OK. She is also survived by three grandsons, eight granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren. and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Four sisters survive, Mary Ann Malone of Barlow, and Julia Roddy of Sun Valley, CA, Harriett Jenkins of Cincinnati, OH, and Rita Westbrook (Steve) of Ventura, CA. Two brothers survive, Benedict Roddy of Sioux Center, IA, and Vincent Roddy of Marietta, OH. She is survived by two brothers-in-law Jim Schoen and Frank Valadez, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant grandson Daniel Destro; sisters, Margaret Schoen, Alice Valadez, Virginia Roddy, and infant sister Angela Sue Roddy; brother, Michael Andrew Roddy and Daniel Louis Roddy; grandparents, O.F. and Catherine Roddy and Thomas and Harriett Hayes.

A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Edward Maxfield officiating. A graveside service will follow at Barlow Central Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at the MARIETTA CHAPEL OF CAWLEY & PEOPLES FUNERAL HOMES from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service being held at 4:00 p.m.
