Steven Charles Barrett, 50, of Columbus, Ohio, died Monday, November 26, 2012, at Riverside Methodist Hospital. He was born May 11, 1962 in Marietta to Charles and Dorothy Woodruff Barrett. He was a 1980 graduate of Marietta High School. Following high school, he pursued other education and employment in Columbus. Steven was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Columbus. His passion was community service and he spent many weekends and long hours of planning and organizing. He was looking forward to being Santa for the Red Cross this year. In his youth, he was a member of Boy Scouts, 4-H and Little League, and in high school he was on the crew team. His pride and joy were his two nieces, Morgan Wells of Harrisburg, PA and Elizabeth Wells of Marietta. He is also survived by his parents, his two sisters, Kimberly Barrett of Columbus, and Cheryl Wells of Marietta and maternal grandmother, Mary Strauss Woodruff of Marietta. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Silas Woodruff and Carroll and Clara Kestermier Barrett. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 30, 2012, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marietta, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Friends may call on Thursday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery. There will be a tribute and celebration of life for Steven held in Columbus on Sunday, December 2, 2012. Donations may be made to the St. Mary's Restoration Fund, 506 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750.
