Thelma Irene Hopkins

Thelma Irene Hopkins, 102, formerly of Waterford, Ohio, died Friday, February 6, 2015, at Putnam Rehab Center in Hurricane, WV. She was born September 29, 1912 in Parkersburg, WV to John Calvin and Effie Pearl Wilson Johnson. She attended Parkersburg High School and had worked for A. Viscose and Athens State Hospital in food service. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and The Bridge Church in Little Hocking, and over the years, was a member of and played the piano for many different churches. She is survived by a daughter, Edna Ely of Fraziers Bottom, WV, grandchildren, Glenna Barrow (Tom) of Belpre, Warren Ely, II (Jeanetta) of Bartlett, Barbara McComas (Richard) of Fraziers Bottom, WV and Charles "Ed" Nichols of California; 10 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, a sister Ruth Johnson of Parkersburg, her son-in-law, Charles Nichols of Layman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Hamilton Hopkins, a daughter, Elaine Nichols, brother, Bud Johnson, two sisters, Gertrude Wharton and Dorothy Smith, and her son-in-law, Monty Ely. Funeral services will be held at the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 1 p.m., with Pastor David Dye officiating. Burial will be at Bartlett Cemetery. Friends may call for two hours prior to the services on Tuesday. Thelma's family would like to thank everyone at Arcadia Nursing Home in Coolville, Ohio and Putnam Rehab Center in Hurricane. Donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Charleston, WV.
