Vincent Clarence Lang

Vincent Clarence Lang of Churchtown, age 91, went to be with our Lord on Friday, March 28, 2014, at Emeritus of Marietta, after a good long life on the farm. He was born April 4, 1922, in Marietta to the late Joseph E. and Mary E. Arnold Lang. He went to Rainbow School and later to Lowell High School and farm school. He had worked at Marietta Concrete and Watertown Township, retiring in 1987. He served in the U S Army during World War II in the Philippines. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, which he spoke of daily the last few months, and the Victory Medal World War II. He married Alice Arnold Lang on June 24, 1948, celebrating their 65th anniversary last year. They made their home in Churchtown where they had a dairy farm and were truck farmers. He was a lifelong member of the St. John the Baptist Church in Churchtown, the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 750 in Lowell, charter member of VFW Post 5108, Marietta, Churchtown Senior Citizens and O'Neill Senior Citizens. Vincent liked to mow and garden. He loved to play cards, especially euchre, and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed his family and friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by seven children, Dennis (Sharon) of Whipple, Peggy (Robert E.) Byers of Marietta, Vicky Boley (John , Jr.) of Whipple, Al (Jeanne) of Marietta, Stan of Waterford, Tony (Gail) of Marietta and Betsy of Waterford; 20 grandchildren, Jason, Mark, Hannah, Aaron, Ben, Dwight, Garrett, Keith, Scott, Shannon Lang, Melissa Canavan, David, Elizabeth Byers, Matt, Brandon, Ryan Boley, Ashly Wells, Vicky Nay, and Chris and Michael Hinchee, 28 great-grandchildren, Jennessa, Jassandra, Jacob, Emma, Destiny, Andrew, Mollie, Braxten, Colsen, Isabelle, Hudson, Sydney, Gwendolyn and Jadelynn Lang, Kayley Cox, Zane, Keegan, Connor, Kallie Rose and Branson Boley, Madison, Mason Wells, Carly, Devon and Olivia Canavan, McKenzie Wright, Mylee Lang, and Leighton Elizabeth Byers. Also surviving are his sisters, Evelyn Neill and Shirley Oliver (Bob), brothers, Harold, Delbert (Norma), Robert (Edna), John F. (Janet), Gerald (Martha), sisters in law, Irene and Shirley Lang, many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, Brothers, James, Joseph Jr., Glenn, Walter and Bernard, sisters, Alice Schilling and Grace Strahler, and a grandchild, Austin Lang. Funeral Liturgy with Mass, will be celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Virgil Reischman as celebrant. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Vigil Service at the funeral home at 3:00 p.m. He will be buried at St. John's Cemetery in Churchtown, with military honors. Donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Church or St. John School Foundation, 17784 State Route 676, Marietta, OH 45750.
