Virginia Anne Amrine

Virginia Anne Murray Amrine, 95, of Marietta, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Harmar Place. She was born June 25, 1919 in Marietta to A. Leight and Florence Marie Zwiesler Murray. Ginny was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, the Catholic Women's Club and the Resurrection Choir. She was a 1937 graduate of St. Mary Catholic High School, a 1941 graduate of Marietta College and member of Beta Theta Sorority, which is now Alpha Xi Delta. Ginny was also a member of the Marietta Rotary Anns Club and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award through the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for being "First Lady of District 669" in 1978-1979. She was a former member and leader of Girl Scouts of America and had received the Golden Eaglet Award; longtime volunteer of the local American Red Cross, member of the Betsey Mills Club, Marietta College Alumni Association, Ohio Right to Life Association, Friends of the Museum and the Marietta Country Club. She had served on the Washington County Children Services Board. Ginny is survived by seven children, Mary Virginia Groves (William) of Marietta, R. Michael (Heike) of Scottsdale, AZ., Frank M. (Joellen) of Moore, SC, Patrick D. of Waterford, Timothy N. (Lorie) of Marietta, James M. (Karen) of Marietta and David L. of Cincinnati; and also by a daughter in law, Tonia Amrine of Cutler, 34 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank B. Amrine, Jr. on August 21, 2002; a son, John F. on February 3, 2015; three brothers, Donald C. who was killed in action in Italy in WWII, Norman J. and Robert C. Murray. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Friends may call at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home on Monday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Vigil Service held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park. Donations may be made to the Restoration Completion Campaign at The Basilica, 506 Fourth St., Marietta, OH 45750.
