William Parsons Dorsey

William "Bill" Dorsey, 74, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 2, 2009, after a period of declining health. He was born on August 31, 1935 in Charleston ,WV, one of three sons and two daughters of the late Reverend Daniel Manning Dorsey and Matson Parsons Dorsey of Welch, West Virginia. In addition to his parents William was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce E. (Craig) Dorsey, on August 26, 2009, brother, Daniel Manning Dorsey, of Clarksburg, WV, and two sisters, Minnie Dee Holland and Helen Marie Webber. William is survived by one son, William P. Dorsey, of Marietta and a brother, Donald C. Dorsey, of Scottsdale Arizona. Bill was a graduate of Salem College in Salem, West Virginia, earning a BS in Business. He was employed by DuPont for ten years and served several years in the West Virginia Army National Guard. Bill enjoyed his many years as an antiques dealer in Marietta, first at Calico Bonnet, 102 Front Street. In fact, he enjoyed it so much he bought out his partner, and the store became Riverview Antiques. Today, more than forty years later, Riverview Antiques is still a going concern. Bill was honored last year for his expertise on the basketball court while playing for Point Pleasant High School from which he graduated in 1953. During the Hall of Fame Banquet his name was added to Point Pleasants' Wall of Fame, holding a record that remains unbroken to this day. Memorial services for William and Joyce will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 1:00 pm, at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, 408 Front Street in Marietta, with the Rev. Arthur Bennett officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to the Marietta Salvation Army. Online condolences to www.cawleyandpeoples.com
