With a heavy heart, we announce William “Bill” Joe Gillilan, 73, of Vincent, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughs, and simple pleasures.
Born on December 23rd, 1950, to John Lee Roy and Mary Malissa Johnson-Gillilan in Pomeroy, Ohio. Bill embraced life with a spirit that was endearing to all. Graduating from Eastern High School in 1968, he then served in the Army from 1970 to 1972. In his professional life, he found pride in his career as a Maintenance Mechanic at DuPont for over 40 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his kids, grandkids, fishing, watching Ohio State football, coaching Little League, and sharing jokes.
Fishing was more than a hobby for Bill; it was about the thrill of the catch and a lifelong love of nature. Whether he was by a serene lake or sharing stories of the one that got away, he found joy in every fishing trip.
A loyal Ohio State football fan, Bill lived for game day excitement and camaraderie with fellow fans. His passion for the Buckeyes became a cherished family tradition.
Bill had a talent for bringing laughter and smiles into any room. As a master storyteller and jokester, he could turn ordinary moments into lasting memories. His love for cracking jokes added a special brightness to the lives of those fortunate enough to know him.
Beyond his hobbies, he was a devoted family man. Survived by his wife, Tammy Jay Gillilan, whom he married on December 22, 2017; his three children, Michael Anthony “Tony” Gillilan, Carrie Ann Gillilan, and Gregory Neil Gillilan; and his five grandchildren: Jake, Jeremy, Ethan, Owen, and Billy Gillilan.
He is preceded in death by his mother.
In memory of Bill, let's celebrate the joy, laughter, and love he shared. May he rest in peace, forever casting his line in the waters of our memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made by check to Amedisys Hospice Care at 27855 OH-7, Marietta, OH 45750 in honor of Bill acknowledging the exceptional care they offered during his last days.
