William Michael Joyce

William Michael Joyce, 85, of Marietta, died on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Emeritus of Marietta. He was born April 16, 1928 in Kansas City, MO to the late Walter P. and Margaret Ragan Joyce. He attended De La Salle Military Academy and studied mechanical engineering at Kansas University. He was in the US Army 199th Combat Engineers from 1950 to 1952. He was a salesman for Marietta Concrete Company, and served there as president, retiring in 1993. Mike married Bonnie Marie Scott on February 16, 1952 and moved to Marietta in 1959. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, VFW Post 5108 and had served on the Marietta Memorial Hospital board for over 30 years. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, football, basketball, dancing, and fishing at Gaston's. In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by three children, Jennifer Christy of Marietta, Kevin Joyce of Williamstown, WV, and Jeff Joyce (Janice) of Hot Springs, AR, six grandchildren, Michael, Richard, Patrick and Andrew Christy of Marietta, Abby Joyce of Marietta and Hannah Harrison of Williamstown, also surviving are close family friends, Michele Wilson of Williamstown and Susie Joyce of Marietta. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard, son in law, Jim Christy, and aunt, Sister Mary Corine Joyce. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society or the Jim Christy Fund for Kids at the Marietta Community Foundation. The family would like to thank the staff and management at Emeritus of Marietta for their care. Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption on Thursday, April 10, 2014, with the Rev. Msgr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. There will be a Vigil Service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery.
