William Floyd "Bill" Matheny, 84, of Lowell, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on December 27, 1926 in South Parkersburg to Oda Floyd and Frances Theodosia Morris Matheny. Bill was a WWII veteran, serving his country in the Army, Navy and Airforce. He is retired from Union Carbide as a Tapper and Crane Operator. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ, the American Legion, Post 750, in Lowell, and a past member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Maxine Hill Matheny, whom he married on August 19, 1950; nine children, Randall Matheny (Pam) of Warren, PA, Sandra Walker (Bill) of Zanesville, Andrew Matheny (Gail) of Marietta, Daniel Matheny (Heather) of Lowell, Lance Matheny of Lowell, Tami Linscott (Dan) of Cambridge, Francis Matheny (Carma) of Beverly, Amy Harper (Dail) of Caldwell, and Anna Matheny (Shannon Lashley) of Caldwell; 28 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Thompson of Little Hocking; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death three brothers, Odgar Swisher Higgins, Don and Oren Swisher; two sisters, Delores and Hazel Matheny; and a granddaughter, Caitlin Brianna Walker. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
