William M. "Bill" McCoy, 73, Colegate Drive, Marietta, passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully Sunday morning, September 4, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born June 8, 1938, he was the son of the late Charles and Mabel Harman McCoy. Following graduation in 1956 from Athens High School, Bill joined the United States Air Force, where he served for six years. He had been a truck driver for 27 years, driving for Ford Brothers and retiring from Matlack Tank Lines in 2000. Bill enjoyed watching his grandchildren in all their activities. He also relaxed by watching and feeding the birds, squirrels and deer that frequently visited his home. Forty-seven years ago, on March 6, 1964, Bill married Kathleen "Kathy" Winters, who survives, along with their three children, Charles "Chuck" McCoy (Christi), of Devola, Cheryl McCoy (Bill Davis), of Reno and Charlene McCoy, of Marietta. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Matt Davis, Chase McCoy and Chrystal McCoy. Bill will also be missed by his dogs, Parker and Thor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Charlie Davis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Calvary Community Church in Belpre, with Pastor Kenneth Fullerton officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery, in Marietta. Visitation will be at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday, also at the church for one hour prior to services. Memorial donations may be directed to the Calvary Community Church, P. O. Box 151, Belpre, OH 45714, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
