Brian Scharff

General Manager, Funeral Director

Brian Scharff was born and raised in Marietta. After graduating from Muskingum College in 1997, he went to work for Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. Following his apprenticeship, he is now a licensed funeral director, receiving his license in May of 2001. His passion in the funeral industry is advance funeral planning, and is very knowledgeable in this matter. Brian's favorite activities are golfing, especially with his sons, family time, and he and his wife love to travel, especially to tropical locations and abroad. Brian resides in Marietta with his beautiful wife Holly. The are the proud parents of five children: Caleb, Maddi, Alli, Emi, and Cole. They also are Lolly and Pop to a granddog, Nova and a grandcat, Luna.

William Peoples

Funeral Director - Semi Retired

Bill Peoples was raised in Lowell and graduated from Fort Frye High School. Following college, he graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, where he currently serves as a trustee, and has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer since 1971. As well as being an active member of the First Congregational Church, Bill's caring for the community is evidenced by his involvement in local organizations, such as Marietta Rotary Club and serving for over 20 years on the Boards of Directors for Selby General Hospital and Marietta Memorial Hospital. Bill lives in Marietta with his wife, Patricia. Their daughter Grace resides and works in the Toledo area. In his spare time Bill enjoys collecting antique automobiles and funeral memorabilia.

Patricia Peoples

Funeral Director - Semi Retired

Patricia Peoples, a licensed funeral director since 1987, is well known in Washington County as an educator, having been associated with Warren Local Schools, as well as Fort Frye Local School District and later with the County School system for many years. She also had been an adjunct professor at Marietta College and Ohio University. Pat, like her husband, enjoys her work at the First Congregational Church and in various community groups, including Marietta Rotary Club and Heart of Ohio Girl Scout Council.

Alex Bauerbach

Apprentice

Alex is originally from the Marietta area where he attended Marietta High School from which he graduated in 2018. During his time at Marietta High School, Alex became an Eagle Scout in 2017 and mentored youth through the Washington County 4-H Program and Putnam Elementary School. After graduating from Marietta High School, Alex attended Walsh University where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2021. In Fall 2022, Alex began his apprenticeship to become a licensed funeral director with Cawley & Peoples. During his apprenticeship, he is also attending the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science to become a licensed embalmer. Alex enjoys working with families and creating services unique as life. He is a member of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, a Cloverbud Advisor for the Backyard Gang 4-H Club, and an Assistant Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 231. Alex enjoys volunteering and serving his community in any way possible. Alex's favorite activities are hiking, biking, rock climbing, and spending time with his family and friends. Alex currently resides in Marietta and is excited to serve your family in any way possible.

Robert First

Associate

Robert started with us in October, 2013. He works part-time as an associate at all three of our chapels and also assists in giving tours at Peoples Mortuary Museum. He retired in 2011 after working for over 37 years with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in southeast Ohio, working as a project coordinator related to conservation, rural community development and environmental improvement. Robert and his wife Cathy live in the Oak Grove Community, and are parents of two sons, Matthew and Andrew and grandparents of five.

Gary Pitt

Assocaite

Gary, of Lowell, joined us as an associate in the summer of 2015. He retired from Dominion in 2014 following 40 years of service. Gary is a member of The Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption, the Marietta Knights of Columbus, and plays in the Handbell Choir at the church. He is also a volunteer with Franciscan Meals. Gary is currently serving on the Lowell Village Council. His duties with us are all inclusive from working funerals and visitations to delivering flowers and running errands.

Rhonda Huck

Associate

Rhonda began working as an associate in June of 2015. She helps out mainly in Lowell and Marietta, but, is always on call for Barlow as well. She and her husband, Robert, live in the Lowell area. They are members of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Lowell. Bob and Rhonda have two children and two grandchildren. They enjoy their time with family and watching their grandchildren play sports.

Rick Morgenstern

Associate

Rick works part time as an assistant at our chapels in Marietta, Lowell and Barlow. He and his wife, Sandra, reside in Vincent. He retired in August of 2008 from Boilermakers Local #667. Rick and Sandra are the parents of three children, Brandy Circle (and husband, Grant), Nicholas (and wife, Lindsey) Morgenstern, and Jeremy (and wife, Jody) Warner, and grandparents of many! Their immediate family are all members of The First Congregational United Church of Christ in Marietta. Rick enjoys golfing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Cathy First

Retired

Cathy started with us in January, 2013. As a hobby, Cathy has always enjoyed designing and making flower arrangements, and working with arts and crafts.

Cathy and her husband Robert live in the Oak Grove Community, and are the parents of two sons, Matthew and Andrew and grandparents of five.

Joanne Ollom

Retired

Joanne is a life long resident of the Barlow community. She started working for the Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples in January of 2009. She is a member in local organizations and St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She resides in Vincent with her husband, Ralph. The Ollom's have two children and four grandchildren. Joanne retired in 2023, but still helps occasionally with visitations and services in Barlow.

Polly Campbell

Retired

Polly began working for us in October of 2013, as an associate of our Barlow Chapel. She is the daughter of Ralph and Frances Witten of Lowell. Polly graduated from Fort Frye High School in Beverly. Polly retired in 2023.

Christy Combs

Retired

Christy resides in Beverly, Ohio and joined our team in April of 2016. She enjoys photography, reading, quilting, and spending time with her family. Her main attraction, and a definite asset, to our firm is that she likes being good to people on purpose! Christy retired in 2023 to spend more time traveling with her partner, Brian.
